Update: May 5th, 2015
Hi everyone! Here’s a quick rundown of all the gaming-related stuff I’ve written since the last update!
the quest goes on: a post on Dark Souls II’s narrative, loneliness, and hope
That Old Familiar Fear: On Money, Instability, and Cart Life: a (quite popular) post on…umm…money, instability, and Cart Life
what about what she wants?: a short and also quite popular post, this one on the game Average Maria Individual, the graphic novel Second Quest, and questioning the stories that tell us why the world is the way it is.
the things you start to see once you start to see things: another post on Second Quest, this one exploring the meanings of its title.
Inescapable Violence? Racism? Those Are Features!: a post on the gameplay overview trailers for Mad Max and The Witcher III and how these trailers work to reinforce the values at the core of the games they represent.
separated places: a post on the game apartment, which is about a breakup and other kinds of heartbreak and isolation, and is currently running a Kickstarter.
and Deadly Oranges: A Quick Note on Thirty Flights of Loving, a game I love to talk about a bit whenever an excuse presents itself.
I also contributed to this piece in VICE: These are Our Favorite Games of 2015 So Far.
Anyway, I’ve got stuff in the works for the next few weeks, of course, and there are some games coming out in May (Not a Hero, Invisible, Inc., The Witcher III, etc.) that I’m eager to spend some time with, so stay tuned, and if you like my work and want to help enable me to keep doing it, please consider supporting my Patreon if you’re not already.
Thanks so much for reading! And remember, hope can be what keeps you human in a world that tries to make you hollow.
